I'm interested in serving this community as Board Member because our students and parents deserve representation that will help their voices to be heard. In addition, the teachers and school administrations in this post deserve someone who will advocate for them and their needs. In more recent years, specific board members and in turn, their constituent's voices have been ignored whether due to leadership or politics. I'm planning to bridge that gap and truly focus on what is best for ALL of our students. I will fight for this community's voice to be heard.
Community – As a vocal advocate in the community, I encourage civil conversations between our community members. As a member of the board, I would view my role as a listener and connection point to the district leadership. I want to take all perspectives on current issues - whether it's discipline, IEP meetings, or safety issues - into account to advocate for a policy that represents all our Post 5 community members. I will make sure that the constituents - students, parents, and teachers - can reach their district representative to best accommodate their concerns. As a member of the school board, I expect to be a role model for our students and to be involved in their development and success as a student.
Success – Our community is maturing and changing. The board should more accurately represent the makeup of our schools and community. We are parents, caregivers, business owners, corporate executives, and many other things. Our board should be inclusive of those differences, both seen and unseen, so that students, teachers, and in turn our schools, will all have a chance at success. We can achieve that together by advocating for the removal of structural barriers to success in our schools. The schools within Post 5 from Pope to Walton to Wheeler and all those in between, all strive to have one thing in common - student success. I plan to focus on that success from our youngest students to our graduates.
Transparency – For too long, parents have complained about not knowing the details of Board or District policy before making informed decisions. I plan to hold meetings to recap board meeting discussions and how it affects YOU as a community member. I intend to advocate as an individual member for the board as a whole to enact action rather than just checking off a line item. I will also advocate for a better breakdown of where the district money is going and when. There have been many board meetings where parents are not aware of changes until it has already happened. Post 5 has had amazing community involvement and strives for better schools and programs for our children through our PTAs and Foundations. Our district should listen to the parents' and teachers' needs in the schools.
I need your support to be able to accomplish these things. I will always be an active, involved, and engaged parent at public board meetings as I have in the past. But, I want to help this community to be heard and that is by being a member of the school board who knows what is happening in our community and is actively involved in making these decisions.
